Thanksgiving is here! Whilst I don’t celebrate it as a Brit, I’ll take any excuse to find some positives in the world, especially as everything feels a little bleak right now.
Here are some fashion related things I’m grateful for that you can love too!
All the sustainable fashion journalists applying their analytical minds to holding unethical fast fashion powerhouses to account are so special. Their articles breaking down different developments in policy changes and advocacy for garment worker rights helped inspire me to boycott fast fashion stores, for good. Have a read of Sophie Benson or Emily Chan’s work if you haven’t already.
Duh! Whenever I’m not sure what to wear or fancy wearing something different without splashing the cash, the Whering app is ideal. I love discovering new outfit combinations from clothes I already own so there is no need to buy anything new. Dress Me if my favourite feature, but I also enjoy scrolling through the outfits other Wherers have made for me.
One of my most worn jumpers is a green turtle neck that my friend decided she didn’t want anymore. It was gratefully received! The friends that ask if you want their old clothes before selling them on are my favourite kind.
I love asking to borrow clothes from my housemates when I’m stuck on what to wear. There’s something so fun about going into someone else’s closet and having free reign to borrow whatever you want and getting to try something new without breaking the bank.
Depop likes are a hidden treasure trove. I love snooping on what my favouirte sellers have been looking to buy. It’s always interesting to see what inspires people who inspire your personal style.
Also, the Depop likes folder is a great way to find out what friends or loved ones are eyeing up, and get there first. Buy your besties liked items as a gift before they get to them. It’s an easy way to make sure they will love it!
Alongside a good independent coffee shop, reliable charity shops restocked with second-hand gems are THE best things on the high street. I love the challenge of routing through the rails to find something amazing.
The cost of living crisis is hitting, but the Depop gurlies aren’t giving up. People who don’t buy cheap clothes from charity shops and upsell for triple the price, but instead get rid of unwanted clothes for a reasonable price are the saving grace of resale platforms, helping make sustainable fashion accessible to all!
It’s the cutest thing when a total stranger tells you they like your outfit or an item you’re wearing– unless it’s a creepy man. I try and tell strangers whenever I like something about their outfit, but it’s easy to get shy. That’s what makes it extra nice to receive a compliment from someone you don’t know.
