Wardrobe Full of Stories: Magic Mary Janes

From stunning anniversary outfits and independent designer jewellery to bargains on Vinted, take a trip around Europe with Julieta's most loved pieces.

1. Green Tweed Blazer

I was visiting the Cotswolds with my husband nearly three years ago when I got the sudden, unsurprising urge to add a tweed blazer to my wardrobe. So I hopped on Vinted and there it was. It’s from Joules, 100% wool (now very rare as most are polyester/wool blend). I wore this blazer together with this dress on our first wedding anniversary trip to Paris, where, fun fact, we had booked a couples photoshoot to which I wore this outfit. It was the most perfect morning with just a touch of sun, a dream. Turns out the photographer overwrote our pictures with another shoot and we never got to see them. But we’ll always have the memories, right? Right!?

2. My first Weekend Max Mara Pasticcino

I visited Venice for my birthday in 2022 and to say I fell in love is a complete understatement. I connected with the city in a way I haven’t with any other ever before. It was also my first time getting to talk in Italian in real life (!!) after I started learning the language back in 2021. It was a very special trip and one I’ll remember forever. So you can understand that when I saw the limited edition Pasticcino bag from the Weekend Max Mara Venice collection half price at Fenwick, I just simply had to have it. Let me geek out for a second here, the fastenings are murano glass beads, each one individually made, and the fabric is a Fortuny design manufactured in their Venice textile factory.

3. Dr Martens Mary Janes

I bought them on sale and over the phone (!!) for £35 (bargain) when I got my first ‘proper’ job 11 years ago. They’ve been soaked in the Disneyland Paris rain, soaked again in a merciless Venetian autumnal rainstorm, can’t say they kept me dry but the outfits never perished and I’m always comfortable wearing them. I have neglected to polish or protect them in as long as I’ve had them and they still look great. Dare I say, nearly like new. They might be magic shoes now that I think about it…

4. A classic blue polka dot dress

I wore this the day after my wedding with a red lip. Very chic. I also wore it on that first-anniversary trip I told you about before with, guess what? Another Joules blazer, this time navy blue. I did sustain a mild obsession with finding 100% wool Joules blazers on Vinted at that point in time, which I think was fully worth it.

5. The Everything Dress

Bought from the Cath Kidston closing-down sale without knowing they were closing down :(

I have worn it on a summery day-trip to Oxford, a country-side wedding, an evening out at The Proms and many trips abroad. This dress is so comfortable and easy to wear it’s my go-to for Spring and Summer. I sometimes do this weird thing where I buy a dress and don’t wear it straight away, then a year later it becomes my second skin. Anyone else?

6. Special occasion earrings

I fell in love with the work of London-based independent jewellery maker @raymakesthings the moment I laid eyes on her work. The day she released this design I knew right there and then I needed a pair to be mine, they’re my favourite design of hers. I’d categorise them as statement-adjacent hence why they don’t come out of the jewellery box that often. If I’m going to the opera, this is likely what I’m wearing.
