My grandma had the dreamiest closet any grandchild obsessed with vintage and 70s style could imagine. Retro jackets, groovy shirts, and skirts so high-waisted they could pass as dresses. When she passed away six years ago, I inherited most of her wardrobe. This skirt suit is my absolute favorite. Tweed? Shoulder pads? Houndstooth? Yes, please! It had a more classic cut, so I took it to my trusted tailor to give it a modern twist. We cropped the jacket, re-added the black piping, shortened the skirt, and added a little vent in the front. Not only does it make me feel amazing, but it also brought the sweetest smiles to my mom’s and grandpa’s faces every time they saw me wearing it. I can’t think of a better way to honor her memory. I miss you, Grandma and Grandpa. <3
These are the first luxury item I ever owned, and the only one purchased new. Gucci is my favorite luxury brand, and I had been daydreaming about owning a piece for a while. On a lovely Valentine’s Day, during a unique stay in a geodesic dome in the woods, my husband and I were enjoying the warmth of the woodstove and a glass of wine when he handed me a neatly wrapped gift box. As I tore away the paper and saw the iconic green Gucci monogram, I froze. Inside were the most stunning pink slides. It was love at first sight. Not only are they in my favorite color, but they also go with everything—whether formal or casual. I still can’t get over how beautiful they are, almost like contemporary sculptures. Pro tip: they get squeaky clean with a magic eraser!
Last year, my mom was sorting through her old clothes and unearthed this hidden gem. Pristinely preserved, exactly my size, and perfectly my style. I’ve “borrowed” many clothes from my mom over the years, but this suit was something else. She told me she wore it when she was around my age, in her boss-lady days. I love that I’m now carrying the torch. This suit makes me feel cool and confident, and I hope to care for it as well as she did.
The Mighty Company has been my number one clothing brand ever since I saw one of their jackets on Caity Lotz’s Instagram. I was never really a “jacket person” until that moment. From then on, it became my fashion goal to own one. Their mission is to craft collectible pieces that last a lifetime, and they truly mean it. After many sample sales and hundreds of hours searching secondhand websites, I’m now a proud owner of many Mighties, and each one is a favorite. The “Cheshire Jacket,” though, is the one I chose for this story. I love how bold yet versatile it is—it goes with everything. I still have my eye on the pink version though, if you spot it anywhere, let me know!
I’ve admired Kate Spade bags for ages, and if I had to carry only their bags for the rest of my life, I’d be fine with it. This one is extra special though—first of all, just look at it! Also because I coveted it for a whole year before I finally got my hands on its gorgeous pink canvas. It was so pretty I was almost afraid to use it. But being the clumsy person I am, that didn’t last long. A year later, I spilled my delicious chocolate ice cream all over it. I thought it was ruined for sure, but my mom, the stain-removal expert, worked on it with dish soap so carefully and patiently, and voilà—it was as good as new. I was blown away and so relieved, and my mom became a bit cooler that day. #respect
I’ve always had a soft spot for gloves, probably because of my childhood hero Rogue from X-Men. She’s this gorgeous, badass superhero who has to wear gloves at all times because her power absorbs the life force and memories of anyone she touches. As a kid, I thought that was both terrifying and cool. I’ve also had a weird habit of picking at my fingers for as long as I can remember. Last year, I felt really motivated to stop and needed something to physically prevent myself from doing it. That’s when a light bulb went off—I had the perfect excuse to wear gloves all the time! I’ve been collecting sun gloves in all kinds of colors and styles ever since. I love how they complete my outfits while protecting my nails from myself, plus making me feel like a chic undercover superhero.
