It’s week two of our auditing course! In week one we examined how we got to owning so many clothes and starting our auditing journey by deciding what to sell/donate– now we’re transitioning into a state of reflection. This week, let’s have a think about what we’ve been wearing recently and check in with how we’re feeling about our style.

Now that you (hopefully!) have all your items digitised on Whering and you’ve evaluated on a base level what is worth keeping in your wardrobe, you can start planning and scheduling outfits to get data on what you enjoy wearing. To get the most out of this instalment of the course, you’ll need to schedule a few outfits to effectively look back on what you’ve been wearing.

If you’re new to Whering and haven’t tracked any of your outfits in the Planner, we suggest adding outfits or items you remember wearing over the last couple of weeks to the Calendar and scheduling outfits for the week ahead to quickly get an overview of what you’ve been wearing recently.

If you haven't already, now could be the perfect time to start our 60-day styling challenge! By planning outfits for 60 days in a row, you’ll build up your stats and get real-time insights into what you’re wearing most and least, popular pairings, and common colours and brands in your wardrobe. If you’ve been following along with the course, keep trying to plan outfits without the items in your “maybe” pile to see which pieces are worth keeping.

Take on the challenge

Time to reflect

During week one we completed some basic reflections, but it’s time to delve deeper.

Fashion expert, Samantha Sutton, believes you need to be open to forgetting traditional fashion rules to properly evaluate your style:

“I think a lot of finding my personal style has been reassessing what I thought I could and couldn't wear. For instance, my whole life, I never felt like a "Dr. Martens person" because I associated those shoes with more of a rock star aesthetic; however, my white platform Chelsea boots ended up being the pair I wore with everything.

You don't have to be X, Y, or Z to fit into a specific box in order to incorporate something into your wardrobe (age included!), and it doesn't have to be a certain season or occasion to wear the items you love.”

Once you accept that you might need to unlearn a few things, you may find it easier to examine your wardrobe with new eyes.

Prompts to Reflect & Reconnect With Your Wardrobe

  • Which outfits have bought you the most joy in the last month?
  • Do you generally dress more practically or fashionably?
  • Why? How does this make you feel?
  • Were you surprised by your most worn items/outfits? If so, why?
  • What items did you feel your best in? Why?
  • Which pieces do you not feel so great in? Why?
  • What colours are you wearing most often?
  • What patterns do you gravitate towards?
  • Is there a large amount of clothes in your wardrobe that you’re not wearing, why?
  • Do you wait for occasions to wear nice things? Is this hindering you from wearing outfits you feel good in?
  • Do you change outfits a lot throughout the day or wear the same thing most of the time?
  • How often do you put time into thinking about what to wear?
  • Do you feel better or worse when you spend time planning outfits?
  • How would you describe your style? Is this description reflective of what you’ve been wearing recently?
  • Is there a disconnect between how you imagine your style and how you actually dress?
  • What is something you love about your style? Think of as many things as you can!
  • Is there anything you’d like to wear but you’re worried about?
