Rosette Ale, Founder of Revival London, an upcycling brand, talks all things self-expression and fun when it comes to her style. Hear how she shares clothes with friends and makes her own pieces to create a stylish and sustainable wardrobe…
Old school, colourful, and quirky
I am just obsessed with the 90s, I feel like that era was just really cool. Everyone was very expressive with their style, so it definitely resonates. Colourful, because I love to stand out and I love to wear bright colours. Quirky because I love upcycling, so I always have a weird little me piece.
Fashion is all about having fun. Experimentation is the key thing, don’t be scared to try new things, don’t be scared to wear a certain colour or dress in a certain way, just have fun with it!
I express my mood, my vibe, just things about my personality and my heritage. I think I just use clothes to tell the world who I am!
This outfit I actually made myself. I customised this crop top with some embroidery thread and it’s all about the message of sustainability and going towards the greener side of things. This is a patchwork skirt which I made from all the remnants of pieces that I made previously from denim.
I think it’s a bit more refined. Obviously, with more money, I am buying more quality pieces and buying less fast fashion, trying to get into the slow fashion side of things and be more conscious about what I’m buying.
My inspiration comes from loads of different places. I think mainly social media which is obviously a huge thing for everyone. I follow quite a lot of style bloggers so there is a lot of inspo there. But I think also bits of my heritage as well. I’m West African so I pull elements of that into my style and then I think friends, people around me, things I see on the high street and things like that, all inspire me.
I definitely send a ‘What are you wearing?’ text and then we share outfits if we’re going on a night out or out for brunch, or whatever.
When we go thrifting we’re always picking things out for each other. So I think we all have an idea of each other’s personal style and we’re all like “yeah, this is for you”.
Yeah for sure! I feel like that’s a good way to get more clothes without harming the planet. It’s good to share your wardrobe and also discover items that you might not necessarily buy and be a bit more experimental.
Yes, one friend in particular has this asymmetric skirt that I need. I need to have it!
I share clothes with my family. My cousin did a big clothes swap and we just came together and had drinks and all shared each other’s clothes, things that we just didn’t really want anymore. So that was really nice to find new pieces within a small community.
I like my own company and I like to take my time, especially when I’m thrifting. So I would say alone…
I think Whering helps me to see my full wardrobe inventory and see what I have so I can style it in different ways and experiment more.
