October 29th may just be our least favourite day of the year. An extra hour of sleep traded in for months of it getting dark around 3pm. No thanks.
With less daylight at our disposal, it’s natural to feel a little down, or just more down than usual. While there’s a plethora of things you can implement in your day-to-day life to lift your mood like movement, good food, indoor activities, quality time with friends, and so on, our forté is ✨outfit planning✨.
Can planning outfits really help us beat the winter blues?
If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember our first article of 2023: Wardrobe Zen: Planning Outfits and Sticking to Your Goals. It explores the idea of breaking up ‘resolutions’ into ‘intentions’ and how planning cute outfits around those intentions may inadvertently help you accomplish them.
We totally get it might sound a little silly, but have a read for yourself and see. The gist is: you know how you’re naturally more excited for outings when you’ve got a cute outfit planned? The same is true if you apply that logic to the intentions you’ve set around your resolutions: whether it’s going to cooking classes (because your resolution is to cook more at home), language classes, workouts, runs, and so on.
So, with that in mind, couldn’t we apply the same logic when it comes to beating winter blues?
For some of us, that may mean setting aside some dedicated quality time to spend with friends, and planning a cute look around it in advance. For others, it might mean giving yourself more wind-down on a Sunday, and including weekly work outfit planning in that self-care time (yes, planning your outfits is self care).
For those of us who work from home, it could mean booking in a co-working spot somewhere and planning your outfit for that, or simply spending some time putting together cute and comfortable at-home outfits because on some days you find it hard to even get out of your pyjamas.
Everybody’s circumstances are different, and for all we know you might love the autumn/winter season. But we do know that a full(er) Whering calendar might just make you love it even more.
