You can create multiple Lookbooks on Whering, whether it’s for a holiday with your besties or work outfits to make you feel unstoppable, creating Lookbooks for different moments makes life ten times easier.
We’re really not morning people, so being able to decide what to wear whilst staying in bed is a yes from us.
Once you start creating Lookbooks, you won’t be able to stop. We enjoy planning outfits and making Lookbooks on Whering much more than doom scrolling social media.
Most of our Lookbooks are full of second-hand clothes, but it's not always easy to find second-hand pieces you love that will stand the test of time.
Finding good quality second-hand clothes takes a little longer than heading to well known fast fashion sites such as H&M, Zara, Boohoo- but the pay off is worth the effort.
With these mega fast fashion brands monopolising at an alarming rate, a lot of their clothes have ended up in charity shops and on resale platforms like Depop and Vinted, making it even harder to find high quality clothes.
There’s no shortage of sustainably made garments out there, you just have to know where to look. The most sustainable thing you can do for fashion is to wear what you own, and there’s no better way to do that than to have quality staples you can rely on.
Investing in good quality clothing made by ethical brands, or buying second-hand designer pieces, is the best way to ensure you’re spending money on well made clothes to last.
Independent designers are also a safe bet for quality clothing as they perfect their craft and make clothes with care. Clothes feel better when you know they didn’t hurt the planet.
The Whering Marketplace makes it easy to find ethically sourced clothing. We have everything from sustainable brands, preloved luxury, quality vintage clothing and independent designers and businesses, so whatever you’re looking for, there’s a sustainable version of it on Whering.
That being said, buying clothes for the sake of it, ethically sourced or not, isn’t sustainable.
Only buy clothes you genuinely need, or you’re at risk of over consuming and increasing textile waste in landfill.
We know it’s hard, but try to resist buying low quality clothing just because it’s cheaper. It may feel better in the moment, but the most financially sustainable thing you can do is to spend money now, rather than later.
Paying £100 for a quality pair of jeans might make a big dent in your bank account at first, but it will be worth it. Especially if you know you can wear the item multiple ways, you’ll never get bored of them.
Saving up for clothing before buying also helps increase its value, so when you finally get it you want to take good care of it and get your money's worth.
Investing and re-wearing is the only way to go when it comes to sustainable fashion. Our Marketplace will help you find pieces you love that don’t cost the earth (literally).
You can use our ‘Wear it With’ feature to see and style what you already own with items you want to buy, so you’ll have faith it’s here to stay.
When it comes to photo shoots, there’s only one thing you shouldn’t wear: something you bought specifically for the photo shoot. Buying clothes just to be photographed in them is a hard no from us.
Social media has made it acceptable to wear something just for a photo, which we get (get those grams gurl) but there’s a difference between getting dressed up in your favourite outfit and taking photos and buying a whole new outfit just for a photo.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but buying clothes, taking photos in them and then returning them is no better. It’s really not the sustainable flex you think it is. You’re not creating your own rental service, but rather ensuring that item goes to landfill after being worn for a matter of hours.
Unbelievably, most fast fashion brands ship all returns to landfills outside of the UK, even if the clothes aren’t in bad condition.
If you’re not sure what to wear to a photo shoot, wear something you love that makes you feel confident. The camera can tell when you’re not feeling your best, so be sure to choose something authentic to your style that will let your personality show in the photos.
When you feel confident, you look ten times better (no pressure!). We’re not saying we always feel our best when we take photos, but we’re always sure to choose an outfit we know represents us, not trend cycles.
Let’s be honest, we all love experimenting with fashion. That’s why rental is great, it lets you try before you buy without costing the earth. We’ve partnered with some stunning rental brands to bring you the hottest looks, so you can hop on trends without partaking in the buy-use-dispose model that has become so normalised.
The Whering Marketplace has a variety of high quality second hand, vintage and ethically sourced clothes, without the hefty price tag. Whatever your budget, have a browse through our marketplace and see what gems you can find.
Maybe we’re biassed, but we think our editors have style, and they’ve handpicked the hottest clothing you’ll be desperate to add to your wardrobe. And you can!
Before buying items on our Marketplace you can style them with what you already own by tapping ‘Style it’. Purchase high quality clothes with confidence after styling them with your existing wardrobe.
Our partner Beyond Retro has a vast selection of vintage clothing from all the best eras, so you can look your best and have a little extra cash to spend.
We're self proclaimed Vinted lovers. Search for what you’re looking for and lower the price filters and you will see tonnes of styles for a good price. If you can’t see a price low enough, make someone an offer!
Pro tip: see how long the items have been listed for. If it’s been a while you could get the item for an even lower price as they’ll be desperate to sell.
eBay is also a great site for quality clothing for a fair price. You can bid on different items and you’ll be surprised at the bargains you can find. Trust us, when you first start buying clothes on eBay, it’s a thrilling experience.
Be careful not to get caught up in the excitement of bidding and check in with yourself that you actually want what you’re gunning for.
When you buy second-hand clothes, it's super important to take care of them so they last years. See our guide on how to look after second hand clothes for all our tips and tricks.
The best fashion websites are those that prioritise people, the planet, and style. That’s why we created the Whering Marketplace to bring all our fave fashion websites together in one place.
Okay, maybe not all of our fave fashion websites are partnered with us (yet👀), but the Whering Marketplace is a great place to find sustainable and stylish staples.
Not to mention, you can style items you want to buy with what you already own on Canvas… It's like going into a changing room, with your entire wardrobe, and not having to leave the house. Perfect, right?
Here’s more sustainable fashion websites we love:
We’re genuinely obsessed with our partner Vestiaire Collective. You can shop preloved designer clothing from all over the world for a good price.
By shopping on Vestiaire Collective, you’re helping to keep fashion circular, which is one of the best things you can do for sustainable fashion.
Shop Vestiaire Collective on the Whering Marketplace here.
Vestiaire Collective can be on the more expensive side, so it’s not always a vibe- but we’re also obsessed with Depop and Vinted that give you the resale experience for a little less, depending on who you buy from.
Edit your price filters to see clothing that suits your budget. Try going for a lower price than you usually would, you’ll be amazed at what you can find.
That being said, if you wouldn’t buy something for three times the price, it might not be worth purchasing.
Not all of us can afford to think like that, so just make sure you really like something, and you’re not just buying it for the low price tag.
This is for the retro besties out there, we see you. We know everyone loves Y2K, but what about iconic styles from the 70s, 80s and 90s?
There’s so many stunning looks that go beyond the Y2K trend, so have a gander through Beyond Retro's affordable vintage fashion for everyone.
eBay is also a classic when it comes to buying fashionable clothes online. It’s not all phones and gadgets, there’s some seriously nice vintage and preloved clothing that you won’t find anywhere else.
Also, if you haven’t tried bidding on something, you need to! It’s giving auction but without actually having to leave your house. When it’s something you really want, it’s fun to get involved in the bidding process.
Investing in quality clothing to see you through the next 5 or so years is a great way to shop. There’s no timer on anything you buy, just make sure each item you purchase has potential to be worn for years to come.
Everyone has sentimental items they’ve had for years that they still love wearing, imagine your whole wardrobe like that? With a little time and considered purchasing, it could be reality.
There’s no set list of brands or items that will last you a lifetime, it depends on your individual style. We can’t tell you what you’ll love in 5 years time, so trust your gut and choose something you can wear in multiple ways. That's where we come in.
Our stats will tell you exactly what your most and least worn items are, so you know what’s worth buying. When you see what clothes you wear most frequently, you can have confidence in future purchases knowing they truly reflect your style.
Got your eye on something new you want to experiment with? Try-before-you-buy with our ‘Style it’ feature. You can add items from our Marketplace to canvas and see how they look with what you already own. When you see how items fare with your existing wardrobe it contextualises the purchase and tells you whether or not it’s a good investment.
