Why are there very few good quality clothes around?
Most of our Lookbooks are full of second-hand clothes, but it's not always easy to find second-hand pieces you love that will stand the test of time.
Finding good quality second-hand clothes takes a little longer than heading to well known fast fashion sites such as H&M, Zara, Boohoo- but the pay off is worth the effort.
With these mega fast fashion brands monopolising at an alarming rate, a lot of their clothes have ended up in charity shops and on resale platforms like Depop and Vinted, making it even harder to find high quality clothes.
There’s no shortage of sustainably made garments out there, you just have to know where to look. The most sustainable thing you can do for fashion is to wear what you own, and there’s no better way to do that than to have quality staples you can rely on.
Investing in good quality clothing made by ethical brands, or buying second-hand designer pieces, is the best way to ensure you’re spending money on well made clothes to last.
Independent designers are also a safe bet for quality clothing as they perfect their craft and make clothes with care. Clothes feel better when you know they didn’t hurt the planet.

That being said, buying clothes for the sake of it, ethically sourced or not, isn’t sustainable.
Only buy clothes you genuinely need, or you’re at risk of over consuming and increasing textile waste in landfill.
We know it’s hard, but try to resist buying low quality clothing just because it’s cheaper. It may feel better in the moment, but the most financially sustainable thing you can do is to spend money now, rather than later.
Paying £100 for a quality pair of jeans might make a big dent in your bank account at first, but it will be worth it. Especially if you know you can wear the item multiple ways, you’ll never get bored of them.
Saving up for clothing before buying also helps increase its value, so when you finally get it you want to take good care of it and get your money's worth.

What is the best thing to wear for a photo shoot?
When it comes to photo shoots, there’s only one thing you shouldn’t wear: something you bought specifically for the photo shoot. Buying clothes just to be photographed in them is a hard no from us.
Social media has made it acceptable to wear something just for a photo, which we get (get those grams gurl) but there’s a difference between getting dressed up in your favourite outfit and taking photos and buying a whole new outfit just for a photo.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but buying clothes, taking photos in them and then returning them is no better. It’s really not the sustainable flex you think it is. You’re not creating your own rental service, but rather ensuring that item goes to landfill after being worn for a matter of hours.
Unbelievably, most fast fashion brands ship all returns to landfills outside of the UK, even if the clothes aren’t in bad condition.
If you’re not sure what to wear to a photo shoot, wear something you love that makes you feel confident. The camera can tell when you’re not feeling your best, so be sure to choose something authentic to your style that will let your personality show in the photos.
When you feel confident, you look ten times better (no pressure!). We’re not saying we always feel our best when we take photos, but we’re always sure to choose an outfit we know represents us, not trend cycles.

We're self proclaimed Vinted lovers. Search for what you’re looking for and lower the price filters and you will see tonnes of styles for a good price. If you can’t see a price low enough, make someone an offer!
Pro tip: see how long the items have been listed for. If it’s been a while you could get the item for an even lower price as they’ll be desperate to sell.
eBay
eBay is also a great site for quality clothing for a fair price. You can bid on different items and you’ll be surprised at the bargains you can find. Trust us, when you first start buying clothes on eBay, it’s a thrilling experience.
Be careful not to get caught up in the excitement of bidding and check in with yourself that you actually want what you’re gunning for.

eBay is also a classic when it comes to buying fashionable clothes online. It’s not all phones and gadgets, there’s some seriously nice vintage and preloved clothing that you won’t find anywhere else.
Also, if you haven’t tried bidding on something, you need to! It’s giving auction but without actually having to leave your house. When it’s something you really want, it’s fun to get involved in the bidding process.
